David Marchand

David Marchand (born December 10, 1776 in Irwin , Westmoreland County , Pennsylvania , †  March 11, 1832 in Greensburg , Pennsylvania) was an American politician . Between 1817 and 1821 he represented the state of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives .

Career

David Marchand attended private schools and then studied medicine. After his medical license, he practiced in Westmoreland County. During the British-American War he was Major General in the State Militia from 1812 to 1814. Politically, Marchand joined the Democratic Republican Party . In the congressional elections of 1816 he was elected to the Eleventh constituency of Pennsylvania in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded William Findley on March 4, 1817 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1821 .

After his time in the US House of Representatives, David Marchand worked as a doctor again. In 1821 he was elected Prothonotary in Westmoreland County . He died on March 11, 1832 in Greensburg, where he was also buried. His son Albert (1811-1848) was also a member of Congress.
