David Mitton

David Nelson Godfrey Mitton (born July 13, 1938 in Edinburgh , Scotland ; † May 16, 2008 ) was a BAFTA- nominated Scottish-British television producer , screenwriter , director , model maker and special effects technician .

Career

Mitton began his television career in the 1960s while working for Gerry Anderson's puppet production Thunderbirds . With his own production company, Mitton began producing the television series Thomas, the little locomotive based on the stories by Wilbert Vere Awdry, in 1984 . He was also involved as a director and screenwriter on the series until the seventh season of 2003.

He also created TUGS together with Robert D. Cardona , Thomas' sister series, which was produced using similar techniques and dealt with the tug boats of the fictional harbor of Bigg City Port. However, only 13 episodes could be completed which were released in 1989. After that failure, Mitton returned to the Britt Allcroft Company and worked on Thomas' third season, The Little Locomotive.

On May 16, 2008, Mitton died of a heart attack at the age of 69. His death was announced on May 28th.
