David Morley

David John Morley (born October 23, 1954 in Reading ) is a British diplomat .

Life

David Morley joined the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) in 1973 . From September 13, 2007 he was the administrator of Tristan da Cunha , a group of islands in the southern Atlantic Ocean that belongs to the British Overseas Territory . This role as administrator ended in 2010.

Morley was sent as British High Commissioner to the West African Gambia by the David Cameron government in May 2011 , replacing Philip Sinkinson . During his tenure, Gambia left the Commonwealth in 2013 under the Jammeh government , so his status as High Commissioner changed to an ambassador (Gambia rejoined the Commonwealth under the Barrow government in 2018). His tenure ended in October 2013 and Morley retired. Colin Crorkin succeeded him in Gambia in June 2014.

David Morley is the son of John Morley and Jean Morley. He married Jacqueline Ann Wells in 1978.
