Life

David Nykl was born in Prague. He came to Canada with his parents at the age of two after the Prague Spring was violently ended. The Nykls came to Victoria, where his father soon found work as a civil engineer and his mother as a nurse. With a penchant for performing and a penchant for witty timing, Nykl soon became involved in all kinds of accomplishments.

In his senior year in high school, Nykl directed and played his first role in The Murder Room . Then he came to the University of British Columbia in Vancouver and took the subjects of literature, theater and acting. After traveling around for a year, he worked for years at the Vancouver Theater and started a few small projects for Ironworks Productions. With a group of friends from Vancouver, he founded Bard on the Beach at the Shakespeare Festival . With their first production of Waiting for Godot (tarragon), they made a debut on Galiano Island. It was the first time David Nykl toured Europe. The city of Prague was on the verge of becoming the new "Moveable Feast" - a Paris of the 1990s. Within a year he went back to Prague, where he started a casting for the KASPAR theater in Prague as Attahualpa, the sun god Inca "Royal Hunt of the Sun". Actors, writers and artists were plentiful in the city, and everyone found their place.

Nothing new came to David Nykl and he found his place in theater and film. Little by little it became known in Prague that he had an excellent command of English. With Richard Toth and Ewan McLaren he eventually founded "Misery Loves Company". After four years he was involved in 17 productions as an actor, director, producer and art director. He later moved back to Vancouver, where he grew up, and worked full-time as an actor in television series, commercials, and films.
