David Phiri

David Abel Ray Phiri (born May 22, 1937 - January 16, 2012 in Lusaka ) was a Zambian manager in the mining and banking sector. David Phiri was born in Zimbabwe but was a Zambian. He graduated from Goromonzi High School, graduated from Bristol University with a degree in Social Services and a degree from Oxford University . He was a fellow of the Rhodes Foundation .

David Phiri has worked in the private and public sectors for over 30 years. He started at Anglo-American Corporation in London in 1963 and moved to Zambia for them in 1964 . In 1967 he became Anglo-American Director for Central Africa. From 1974 to 1982 he was Managing Director of Roan Consolidated Mines , from 1982 to 1984 Ambassador to Sweden , from 1984 to 1986 Governor of the Central Bank of Zambia. In 2004 David Phiri was commissioner for the Katete district . He was on the boards of various companies such as Stanbic Bank , Citibank , Zambia Venture Capital Fund , Madison Insurance , British-American-Tabaco , Holyday Inn , ZamBeef , Commonwealth Investment Fund and various sports clubs .

David AR Phiri was awarded the order "Grant Officers of the Order of the Eagle of Zambia second division" .
