David Schwertner

David Schwertner (also: Schwerdtner ; * October 24, 1625 in Kratzau ; † May 6, 1666 in Aschersleben ) was a German Lutheran theologian.

Life

Schwertner, who came from a Bohemian exile family, enrolled at the University of Wittenberg on June 6, 1644 , where he completed a degree in philosophical sciences, which he continued at the University of Leipzig . There he acquired the academic degree of a master’s degree , completed his habilitation, became an assessor at the philosophical faculty and, in 1659, professor of ethics. His real goal, however, was to pursue a theological career. He became a Baccalaureus of the theological faculty and on July 7, 1659, he became a licentiate in theology.

As such, he became a member of the college's great college of princes . Schwertner also took part in the organizational tasks of the Leipzig University. He was dean of the philosophical faculty and in the winter semesters 1662 and 1656 rector of the alma mater .

In 1665 he followed a call as pastor at St. Stephen's Church and superintendent in Aschersleben, where he died the following year.

From his marriage on January 16, 1656 in the Nikolaikirche in Leipzig to Anna Magaretha, the daughter of the Zittau cantor Simon Crusius (born March 24, 1607 in Leipa; † April 12, 1678 in Zittau), the son Johann David Schwerdtner (1658 -1711) known.
