David Willmann
David Willmann (* 1550 in Stargard (Pomerania) ; † March 18, 1591 in Greifswald ) was a German Lutheran theologian.
Life
Shortly after his birth, his father, Joachim Willmann, died of the plague. He received his education at the Stargarder Stadtschule and in 1567 switched to the princely pedagogy in Szczecin. In 1573 he went to the University of Wittenberg and studied physics, ethics and metaphysics . Four years later he received his master's degree from the Philosophical Faculty.
In 1577, Duke Johann Friedrich appointed Willmann as sub-rector of the Szczecin Education Department. Ordained in Greifswald in 1582 and after a three-year vacancy appointed to the pastorate at St. Jacobi and a theological professorship at the university . In 1584 he received his doctorate.
Willmann consolidated the position of the Orthodox Lutherans and earned a special reputation through his sermons. The explanations of Paul's letters were considered to be his main scientific work .
Since 1584, Willmann was married to Anna Runge, the daughter of the general superintendent Jacob Runge , who was also born in Stargard .
At the age of 41 he suffered severe colic during a sermon in the Jacobikirche and died shortly afterwards.
