David Wootton

David Richard John Wootton (born January 15, 1952 ) is a British historian of science .

Life

David Wootton studied at Balliol College , Oxford and at the Peterhouse of Cambridge University , where he received his PhD in history. From 1976 to 1982 he was a lecturer at Westfield College of the University of London . He then went to Canada as an assistant professor at Dalhousie University , where he was associate professor of history from 1985. From 1987 he was employed at the University of Western Ontario , and from 1989 at the University of Victoria as a history professor.

In 1995 he returned to Brunel University in London . From 1998 he was Professor of Intellectual History at Queen Mary, University of London . He has been a history professor at the University of York since 2004 . Wootton held various fellowships and visiting professorships.
