The David longhorn beetle ( Batocera Davidis ) is a kind from the family of longhorn beetles (Cerambycidae).

description

Longhorn beetles are up to eight centimeters long. The chitin armor either has a beige basic color with various yellow spots or it is black with white spots. The body is elongated and slender. The antennae are very long, and the individual links clearly stand out from one another. The males have significantly longer antennae than the females.

In the event of disturbances, the animals are able to make noises that are reminiscent of a hand-operated saw. In the long antennae of the males there are numerous olfactory organs, which enable them to locate females even over long distances.

The larvae grow to be more than ten centimeters long and live in the trunks of various trees. Thanks to their powerful jaws, they can also shred hardwood with ease.

distribution and habitat

The beetles inhabit dense forests in southern China and Taiwan and Southeast Asia. They are nocturnal and feed on flowers and the sap of various trees. The spots are used for camouflage. It blurs the beetle's outline against the background.
