| Eponym | Merton Edward Davies | |
Davies is an approximately 30 miles large impact crater on Mars . It is located on the eastern edge of the Acidalia Planitia lowlands near the Arabia Terra highlands .
Since his namesake, the American engineer Merton E. Davies (1917-2001), assisted NASA in mapping Mars and established the prime meridian , it is only appropriate that that of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in 2006 after him named crater is also on the prime meridian.
