from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Alhaji Cherno Dawda Jallow CRG (* around 1940 or 1930 in Bathurst , † September 29, 2010 in Banjul ) was a Gambian imam and radio preacher.

Life

Dawda Jallow was a great disciple of Alhaji Cherno Baba Jallow of Kerr Cherno in Upper Niumi .

In Banjul he was imam of the mosque of the police barracks ( English Police line mosque (or: Police Barracks mosque ) ). He devoted his entire life to teaching and preaching Islam, but was also known for his active involvement in social and Islamic activities. The late Imam was the leader of the Fula community in the country, who always spoke on behalf of the Fulas on Koriteh Day ( Feast of the Breaking of the Fast ) during the decency visit of the religious leaders to the President at the State House .

He was known to the broad Gambian population as a long-time preacher of the “Waju Islam” of the Gambia Radio & Television Service (GRTS). Jallow began working for Radio Gambia in 1975 as the successor to the late Alhaji Kula Jallow and has since preached on Fridays from 8.30 a.m. to 9.00 a.m. in the Fula language on the radio.

His health forced him to stop preaching on the radio in 2009. Jallow died at the age of 70 in his residence in the Banjul Police Barracks and was buried in the Old Jeshwang Cemetery. Jallow was married to two women and had eight children.
