Dawit Ussupashvili ( Georgian დავით უსუფაშვილი ; also David Usupashvili ; born March 5, 1968 in Magharo (today: Sighnaghi municipality ), Georgian SSR ) is a Georgian lawyer and politician . Since 2005 he has been chairman of the Republican Party of Georgia . On October 21, 2012, he was elected President of the Georgian Parliament.

Life

In 1992 he graduated from Tbilisi State University with a law degree . In 1999 he earned a Masters Degree in International Development Policy from Duke University .

As legal advisor to the Georgian State Council, he was involved in drafting the Georgian constitution from 1993 to 1995. In 1994 he became co-founder and founding chairman of the Association of Young Lawyers of Georgia, a civil society organization that aims to enforce human rights and the rule of law in Georgia. In 2003 he took an active part in the rose revolution .

In 2011 Ussupashvili joined the Republican Party in the Georgian Dream alliance around the billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili . After the alliance's election victory, Ussupashvili was elected President of the Georgian Parliament on October 21, 2012.

He is married to the legal scholar Tinatin Chidascheli , who is also a member of the Young Lawyers Association, the Republican Party and the Georgian Parliament.
