Daxue Shan ( Chinese 大雪山 , Pinyin Dàxuě Shān ) or Da Xueshan ( Dà Xuěshān ; 'Great Snow Mountains') is a mountain range in the province of Sichuan in southwest China, the highest in Hengduan Shan . It is located in the Garzê (Kardze) Autonomous District of the Tibetans .
It is the watershed between Yalong River ( Tib. Nyag chu ) and Dadu River ( Tib. Rgyal rong rgyal mo rngul chu ).
The mountain range extends for about 400 km, its highest peak is the Gongga Shan ( Tib. Gangs dkar ri ) ( 7556 m ) in the south of the Kangding district . It is covered with coniferous forests and mountain steppes. In its highest parts there are glaciers .
The Sichuan-Tibet Road ( Chuan-Zang gonglu ) runs through the mountains.
During the Long March , the Chinese Red Army of Workers and Peasants ( Zhōngguó Gōng-Nóng Hóngjūn ) crossed the mountains in May 1935.
