history

The company's roots go back to the middle of the 19th century, operated by Don Nicola De Cecco in Fara San Martino, a mill . The De Cecco family had been making flour there for generations. When the mill was handed over to his son Filippo in 1886, pasta production began. Don Filippo De Cecco commissioned a low-temperature drying system for this purpose , thanks to which pasta production was no longer dependent on weather conditions. In 1908 the Abruzzo peasant girl with the wheat sheaves became the company symbol. It still shapes the De Cecco packs today.

After the end of the Second World War, the pasta factory destroyed by the German bombings was rebuilt and production resumed. The international orientation that had already begun was strengthened and a second factory was put into operation in Pescara in the 1950s . In 1980 a new plant with double the production capacity was inaugurated in Fara San Martino.

From the mid-1980s, the company began to diversify its product range . Initially with the establishment of the Società Olearia for the production of olive oil, later with the processing of tomatoes into Pomodori pelati and sauces as well as with the production of other products of traditional Italian cuisine. In the 1990s, the new mill was built in Fara San Martino, thereby significantly increasing the processing capacity. In 1997 another plant was opened in Ortona .

The De Cecco family who owned the company planned to go public, but decided at the end of February 2009 to cancel the IPO due to the poor stock market situation.
