Dead Brain Cells or often simply DBC is a Canadian thrash metal band from Montreal that was formed in 1985.

history

The band was formed in 1985 under the name Final Chapter by guitarists Eddie Shahini and Gerry Ouellette after listening to Slayer's debut album Show No Mercy . Together they started writing pieces. In 1986 singer Dave Javex and drummer Jeff St. Louis joined the band. Bassist Phil Dakin completed the line-up a short time later. On February 4th, the band had their first rehearsal, in which they completed four songs. Javex changed the band's name to Dead Brain Cells. A few more rehearsals followed until Javex left the band. He was temporarily replaced by Cory Lowe. When he left the band, bassist Phil Dakin also took over the position of singer. The first appearance followed on May 24th. This is how manager Norman Pichette became aware of the band. This was followed by recording a demo and three more appearances. A short time later followed an appearance together with Slayer. This made Combat Records aware of the band. The label obtained some copies of the already recorded demo through Dakin's girlfriend. The band reached a contract for six albums.

In 1987 work began on the debut album. The band went to the Victor Studio from March 16 to April 4 . The album was produced by Randy Burns , who is also the second Megadeth album Peace Sells… But Who's Buying? produced. The band released the album that same year. In 1988 he made local appearances in Montreal, Québec and Toronto . The band also worked on a second album. The band recorded a second demo in June 1988. Later in the year the band entered the Tempo studio with producer Garth Richardson and their second album, called Universe , was released in 1989. In the summer, from July 29th to August 17th, the first tour through the USA followed . They played together with the Bad Brains , among others . In the same year her first appearance on the music channel Musique Plus took place. The band also created their first music video for the song The Genesis Explosion .

From January 5th to January 27th 1990 followed the second tour through the USA, where she had appearances together with Lääz Rockit . In the summer of the same year the recordings for the third demo for the third album followed. Another demo for this was recorded in 1991. Due to differences with their label, the band had to part with it that same year. The search for a new label was unsuccessful, so the band broke up that same year, leaving the third album unreleased. In 1993, Phil Dakin moved to Toronto while Eddie Shahini and & Jeff St. Louis continued to write new music. Gerry Ouellette bumped into these every now and then. Gerry Ouellette died on November 12, 1994.

In March 2002 the two demos became available as a third album on CD. These were previously only available on cassette as a version limited to 100 copies. Eddie Shahini, Phil Dakin, and Jeff St. Louis also played together again. In 2003 the band officially reunited and played a concert, with Daniel Mongrain ( Martyr ) as guitarist. In 2005 the re-releases of Universe and Dead Brain Cells followed . On December 10th, they performed at the Montreal Metal Massacre Fest together with Lying Truth, Aggression , Exciter , Anvil , Piledriver and Razor . Jay Quinn also became the band's new guitarist. In the following years, the band held other appearances. In 2009 drummer Jeff St. Louis left the band and was replaced by Graham Ferguson.
