Aggression is a Canadian thrash metal band from Montreal , which was founded in 1984 under the name Asylum , broke up around 1987 and reunited in 2005.

history

The band was founded on Halloween night in 1984 under the name Asylum by guitarist Denis "Sasquatch" Barthe and guitarist Bernard "Burn" Caudron. A short time later, bassist and singer Éric “Botcher” Langlois joined the band. After destroying his guitar amplifier at a party, Yves "Dug Bugger" Duguay joined the line-up as the new bass player. A short time later, Langlois joined the band as a singer and also brought drummer Gaëtan "Gate" Bourassa into the line-up. Bourassa, in turn, brought "The Boa" Johnny Hart and Jean-François "Big" Lavallée to the band as managers shortly afterwards. The band then changed their name to Aggression after Barthe first suggested the name Antichrist. In September 1985 the band recorded their first demo. After the release followed appearances together with bands like Anvil , Celtic Frost , Voïvod , Nuclear Assault , Agnostic Front , Dirty Rotten Imbeciles , Possessed , Dark Angel , Crumbsuckers , Destruction , Sacrifice and Soothsayer . Then the band reached a contract with Facemelt Records . In 1986 the band went into the studio to record the debut album Forgotten Skeleton . The band also appeared on the compilations Speed Metal Hell II from Greenworld Records and Thrash Metal Attack from New Renaissance Records . After a few months, however, Facemelt Records went bankrupt, so that the album could not yet appear. In addition, a few weeks later Johnny Hart and guitarist Caudron left the band. After the band had signed a contract with Banzai Records and Pierre "Cactus Pete" Fleurant joined the band as the new singer and drummer Stephan Prudhomme, the band went to the Victor Studio to record the album The Full Treatment . The album was released in 1987. By that time the group had already split up.

The band got back together in 2005 and consisted of guitarist Barthe, bassist Duguay, singer Fleurant, guitarist Mark Hill-Anderson and drummer Shawn. In 2004 the album Forgotten Skeleton , which was recorded in 1986, was released via Great White North Records .

style

The band plays aggressive, fast-played Thrash Metal, with influences from Hardcore Punk also being audible. The works are reminiscent of the fast and short songs by Nuclear Assault .
