Dean Drako

Dean Drako is an American businessman.

Drako is the co-founder, President and CEO of Barracuda Networks (NYSE ticker CUDA) from 2003 to July 2012. Drako also acts as a business angel .

As of 2013, Drako holds 27 patents, including patents on network security, network protocols, digital circuits, software, biochemical processes and sports equipment.

life and career

Drako received his Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan and his Master of Science degree in electrical engineering from UC Berkley .

He has founded a total of five companies. His first company, founded in 1982, sold a bulletin board system software package called T-net . Drako used the profits from the company to finance his college education. In 1992 he founded the company Design Acceleration Inc . and were their CEO . In 1999 he sold the company to Cadence Design Systems . Drako was the founder and CEO of Boldfish and Velosel . Boldfish was acquired by Siebel Systems in 2003 . In 2003 Drako founded IC Manage . He is the company's CEO and President.

Drako has published numerous articles on open source , big data, and system on chip design.

Barracuda Networks

2003 Drako Barracuda Networks founded and e-mail spam and viruses - Appliance introduced product line -. Web filters, load balancing , email archiving, and digital PBXs were other Barracuda product lines launched during Drako's tenure.

Drako has made six acquisitions for Barracuda Networks: 2007 NetContinuum, an application controller company, 2008 BitLeap cloud-based backup services and 3SP , an SSL and VPN company; 2009 Yosemite Technologies , in application incremental backup; a majority stake in phion AG and Purewire Inc. , a software as a service cloud-based web filtering and security company.

Drako has supported 16 different open source projects while running Barracuda with Valgrind , Apache and the Free Software Foundation .

In January 2014, Forbes valued Drakos Barracuda stock at $ 340 million.

Eagle Eye Networks

In July 2012, Drako founded Eagle Eye Networks , a cloud-based video security company.

  • 1984 finalist in Westinghouse Science Talent Search for his solar energy research.
  • 2007 Northern California Entrepreneur of the Year Networking and Communication from Ernst & Young .
  • 2011 - During Drako's tenure as CEO, Barracuda Networks was named # 2 in 2011 Best Technology Firm for Business Insider's Work.
