history
The company was founded in 2000 by physicists Wieland Alge, Klaus Gheri, Peter Marte and Thomas Pellizzari. Phion developed a centrally controlled firewall solution for ARZ Allgemeine Rechenzentrum GmbH . In the years 2001 to 2005 the “phion netfence” product portfolio was expanded. A financing round was carried out in 2002 and 2005 in order to be able to expand into the strategically important markets of Switzerland and Germany . In July 2007 the company went public with an issue price of 42 euros per share. The share price then fell steadily and reached a low of 6 euros in spring 2009. In July 2009, Barracuda Networks made a takeover offer at a price of 12 euros per share, which was increased to 16 euros per share in September and was accepted by phion AG shareholders with more than 75% on September 25, 2009. As of December 29, 2009, Barracuda Networks, Inc.'s participation in the share capital and voting shares of phion AG now corresponds to 79.75%.
In the summer of 2010 the company was renamed Barracuda Networks AG.
Corporate structure
Phion AG had branches in Innsbruck (company headquarters), Vienna , Munich , Düsseldorf , Zurich , Milan , London , Venlo and Ras Al Khaimah . Since June 17, 2008, the Swiss company Visonys has been 100% owned by phion AG, increasing the number of employees by around 20 people. Since the takeover by Barracuda, the Airlock product has been bought by Ergon Informatik AG and all Swiss employees have been taken over. Visonys was originally a spin-off from Ergon Informatik AG.
