Dean Richard Campbell (born March 10, 1928 in Topeka , Kansas ; † January 11, 2017 in Wickenburg , Arizona ) was an American soldier who became known for the establishment of the "World Left-Handers Day".

He graduated from Topeka High School and attended the University of Kansas . In 1950 Campbell began his career in the United States Army . As a captain, he retired from military service after 24 years.

In 1975 Campbell founded the association "Lefthanders international" and on August 13, 1976 founded the International Left-Handers Day. For this he consciously chose a day of popular belief , Friday the 13th , to counter prejudices against left-handers.
