Like some albums before, the cover has a color cast. For example, if The Boy with the Arab Strap was green and If You're Feeling Sinister was red, the motif for Dear Catastrophe Waitress is a yellow-orange tone. It shows a hectic scene from an Italian restaurant.

reception

After the two predecessors; Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like a Peasant from 2000 and the soundtrack to the film Storytelling from 2002 received rather mediocre reviews, Dear Catastrophe Waitress was able to resemble the highly acclaimed first three albums ( Tigermilk , If You're Feeling Sinister & The Boy with the Arab Strap ). The album receives around four and a half out of five points at Allmusic . In particular, the work of producer Trevor Horn is praised:

"He certainly helps Belle & Sebastian regain their focus and vision, turning Dear Catastrophe Waitress into one of the group's best albums."

- Stephen Thomas Erlewine

"He certainly helped Belle & Sebastian regain their focus and vision, and turned Dear Catastrophe Waitress into one of the group's best albums."

Even Pitchfork Media rated it with 7.5 of 10 points better than the two previous albums. The album also made it into various annual best lists in music magazines; among other things even in second place in the Musikexpress only behind Elephant by The White Stripes .
