The Dechanthof of Thalgau is located about one kilometer north of the town center at the foot of the Thalgau , and is used for a long time as a vicarage of Thalgau in the Austrian province of Salzburg , and the seat of Dechants the deanery Thalgau .

The estate

The Dechanthof includes a farm that was formerly managed by the respective pastor, the Kreuzkapelle and the so-called Pfarrhofstöckl (formerly also known as "Knechtstöckl"), in which the servants and tenant families were housed; this has been expanded into a parish and event center since the 1980s. The associated farm (Dechantshofgut) was ordered by tenants until 1979. Today the fields are cultivated by Thalgau farmers. The architectural impression of the ensemble is somewhat impaired by the west motorway running in the immediate vicinity above .

Dechanthof like the vicarage chapel St. Cross are under monument protection .

Dechanthof

A marble relief stone in the corridor of the Dechanthof reminds of the fundamental renovation or new building under Pastor Wolfgang Haberl in 1583. A confessional chapel, consecrated in 1601, was installed on the 2nd floor of the Dechantshof. In 1722, pastor GS von Gabelkoven had the house brought into its present form with curved window frames and a large tent roof.

Kreuzkapelle

Pastor JG Griennagel had the cross chapel next to the rectory from 1754–1755 in honor of St. Cross and St. Erecting Mary Magdalene . He also designated it as his burial place. The two rococo confessionals have been taken over from the old house chapel. The new chapel is a two-axis hall with a retracted choir. A roof turret with an eight-sided attachment and onion dome rises above the west gable. The interior is vaulted with stitch cap barrels and decorated with rococo stucco ( rocailles , palm branches, grid fields). On the ceiling of the nave there is a relief of Moses with the copper snake in the central field. By seeing the snake on the signal pole, the Israelites who had been bitten by poisonous snakes were healed. In the choir vault, the eye appears in the triangle as a symbol for the triune God. Four putti with tools for suffering thematically create the bracket to the high altar. A crucifixion group is set up there under a red canopy. Together with the kneeling angels and the flower vases on the sacrificial portals, it was probably made by Sebastian Eberl . Statuettes of the four Latin Fathers of the Church ( Ambrosius , Hieronymus , Gregory the Great , Augustine ) are mounted on consoles between the columns . On the side walls there are two other sculptures (probably also by Sebastian Eberl): on the left a Pietà , on the right a bust of St. Joseph . The positive organ on the small gallery dates from around 1700. The renovation of the Kreuzkapelle was completed in May 2012.
