Declan Kennedy (born July 24, 1934 in Dublin ) is an Irish architect . In addition to the main areas of interest sustainability, ecological building , urban design, landscape planning and permaculture from a holistic point of view, Kennedy is also a mediator in conflict management .

Life

Kennedy studied architecture in Dublin and Darmstadt from 1953 to 1961 , followed by an assistant position at the chair for architectural history at the Technical University of Darmstadt. From 1965 to 1967 he designed the renewal planning for the old town of Regensburg under Prof. Hebebrand; he then received his PhD from the University of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania on a doctoral scholarship . In 1972 he became professor for urban development at the Institute for Housing and District Planning in Faculty 8, Building Planning and Construction at the Technical University of Berlin until 1985; from 1975 to 1978 he was 2nd Vice President of the TU Berlin.

From 1984 to 1989 he served as director of the Permaculture -Institute for Europe (English: Permaculture Institute of Europe ) from 1989 to 1994 as coordinator of the eco-team program for the Global Action Plan (GAP) for the Earth. From 1995 to 1999, he was Head of the European Secretariat and Chairman of the Global Ecovillage Network for Europe .

He was married to Margrit Kennedy from 1961 until her death in December 2013 and lives in the Lebensgarten in Germany (Lower Saxony), where he a. a. the research and demonstration project Permaculture Park at Lebensgarten Steyerberg to preserve nature.

Memberships and honorary positions

  • Since 1985 he has been a member of the Lebensgarten Steyerberg e. V. and was chairman of the community from 2004 to 2006.
  • Since 2005 chairman of the advisory board of the international Gaia University , as well as founder and president of GaiaU-Germany.
  • Since 2005 an active member of the Union of International Associations , an independent non-profit research institute and documentation center for information about international organizations in Brussels, which has existed since 1907.
