The Deep Lake ( English for Lower Lake ) is a nearly square lake with a diameter of 1.5 km at the Ingrid Christensen Coast of the East Antarctic Princess Elisabeth country . It is located about 9 km east-northeast of Davis Station . It is 36 m deep and one of the two salt water lakes in the Vestfold Mountains . The lower 15 m have a constant water temperature of −14 ° C. It is one of a series of lakes that are spread along the west side of the Breidnes Peninsula .
Norwegian cartographers mapped it in 1946 using aerial photographs of the Lars Christensen Expedition in 1936/37 . A team led by the Australian polar explorer Phillip Law first visited him in January 1955 as part of the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions . The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia named it descriptively on April 29, 1958.
