Deep Singh

Deep Singh ( Punjabi : ਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ; * January 20, 1682 in Pahuwind ; † November 11, 1757 ) is venerated as a martyr in the Sikh religion.

He is from the village of Pahuwind in the Amritsar district . In 1700 he went to Anandpur Sahib , where he was baptized a Sikh. Then he began his weapons apprenticeship and learned to ride. From Bhai Mani Singh he learned to read and write Gurmukhi . In 1702 he returned to his village and married there. In 1705 he went to Talwandi Sabo to see Guru Gobind Singh , where he should help Bhai Mani Singh to make copies of Guru Granth Sahib (holy book of the Sikhs ). Since the gurus had to go to Delhi , Deep Singh was given the duty to see that the Gurudwara Damdama Sahib was right .

In 1709 he met Banda Singh Bahadur in Sirhind . In 1733 Nawab Kapoor Singh Singhpuria named him head of a unit. In April 1748 he became the leader of the Shaheedan Misl (soldier unit). In April 1757 he took part in a prisoner liberation.
