The Deep Snow Valley ( English for Tiefschneetal ) is a valley on Ross Island in Antarctica . It is 2.5 km inland from Cape Barne in the middle of the Barne Glacier near the Turret Cone . It represents an entrance from the coast of the island to the lower foothills of Mount Erebus .
The descriptive naming of the valley was made by participants in the Nimrod expedition (1907–1909) of the British polar explorer Ernest Shackleton .
