Deepak Chopra (born October 22, 1946 in New Delhi , India ) is a popular contemporary author of books on spirituality , alternative medicine and Ayurveda . He has lived in California for a long time .

Live and act

The son of a cardiologist studied medicine and became an internist and endocrinologist . But he was also always concerned with alternative healing methods and in 1996, together with neurologist David Simon, founded the Chopra Center for Wellbeing, a wellness center in San Diego (later relocated to Carlsbad, California ). His understanding of medicine is strongly influenced by his religion, Hinduism , and in particular by the Vedas and the Bhagavad Gita .

The University of California, San Diego Medical School (UCSD) has a collaboration with Chopra to study and explain how meditation, yoga and nutrition affect human health. He holds a full, but unpaid professorship at UCSD.

His 8 books reach millions of copies worldwide and have been translated into more than two dozen languages.

In his books, Chopra often uses terms from quantum physics (“ quantum healing ”), for which he received the satirical Ig Nobel Prize in Physics in 1998 . Some of his theses are partially counted as "quantum mysticism" and referred to as " pseudoscientific ".
