Intag is a subtropical , extensive river valley, which is surrounded by the mountain ranges of the Andes and volcanoes. In the north, the Intag region borders the Cotacachi- Cayapas Nature Reserve, where around 28 endangered species of mammals and birds live.

How the DECOIN works

By purchasing the forest areas, DECOIN wants to prevent the local rainforest from being destroyed by mining mines in order to mine the prospected copper and gold deposits.

By 2001, 1,000 hectares of rainforest had been purchased. To date (02/2013) DECOIN has already protected 9,412 hectares of rainforest in Ecuador .

DECOIN is also committed to environmental protection by training the local population in order to avoid water pollution and to use the forest resources sparingly.
