The delegation was a British music group from the disco era . Their musical style is comparable to that of the groups Chic or Sister Sledge .

Band history

Delegation was founded in 1975 by Ricky Bailey, Len Coley and Roddy Harris in Birmingham , UK. In collaboration with producer and songwriter Ken Gold (of The Real Thing ) the band released several singles , e. B. Where Is the Love (We Used to Know) , which reached number 22 in the charts at home, and You've Been Doing Me Wrong , which still climbed to position 49. In 1977 the album The Promise of Love followed , which made it into the US Billboard 200.

After that Coley left the band and was replaced by Bruce Dunbar. In 1979, Delegation released the album Eau de vie at Ariola and landed international hits with Heartache # 9 , You and I and Put a Little Love on Me . The latter was in 1980 in Germany at number 32 in the singles hit parade. In the same year Harris was replaced by Ray Patterson. The band was n't so successful with the album Delegation .

Delegation II was published in 1981, and Deuces High was published in 1982. Both were still moderately successful in Europe , but flopped in the US . In 1984 Dunbar left the band and was replaced by Kathy Bryant. The group recorded a few more singles, almost all of which flopped. It's Your Turn , which was released by Epic , was successful in France , but only ranked 94th in the UK. The Mix , a compilation of their 5 greatest hits, was published by Scorpio Records and flopped in 1989.

In the mid-1990s, Bailey and Gold formed Euro-Jam Records together and released compilations of old hits. The reunited band released their last album, Encore , in Europe in 1996 .

Samples

Delegation's hits are the basis for many samples and cover versions . Among other Heartache # 9 of Phats & Small in Tonite from the year 2000 and Alcazar for the song Start the Fire used (2004).
