history
Phats & Small are a DJ duo from Brighton , England who became famous with their 1999 hit Turn Around . The cover hit , based on The Glow of Love by Luther Vandross (1980) and Reach Up by Toney Lee (1993), was sung by singer Big Ben Ofoedu (known as VJ on MTV Europe), who then worked with the two club DJs in Great Britain came in at number 2 in the charts and the single soon became successful in the rest of Europe. Also worth mentioning is the success of the second single, Tonite , which came in at number 11 in the UK and at number 36 in the singles charts in Germany .
The next single, Feel Good , was also very successful. In November 1999, the first album Now Phats What I Small Music hit stores. Then, in 2000, the duo toured 40 countries, with great success on the island of Ibiza , which was also the center of the party scene in Europe at that time . From now on Phats & Small was an indispensable part of the European club scene, also outside the house scene.
The track Respect the Cock , which contained a quote from Tom Cruise from the movie Magnolia , caused a stir . The track had to be defused due to a legal dispute.
The second album, This Time Around , was released in March 2002 with a new singer and front man named Tony Thompson . He was already known as a two-time martial arts European champion and actor in the soap Hollyoaks from Great Britain. The single, also called This Time Around , reached number 15 in the UK singles chart.
The album Soundtrack to Our Lives followed in April 2004 . Singer Ryan Molloy, who is a well-known songwriter in Great Britain (S Club), took over the vocals. The single Sun Comes Out was sung by Caz, who had also recently been part of the team and was supported by old singer and frontman Big Ben. The song reached number 57 in the single charts in Germany.
Phats & Small now have their own record label called Mutant Disc. For the American teen comedy Who's Your Daddy? produced the theme song, a club mix of a song by Wayne Newton , a famous Las Vegas entertainer .
