The Delta Q Vocal Band is a vocal ensemble with four male voices, which has its own compositions and adaptations of pieces of music from the most varied of genres in its musical repertoire and which also mixes these with comedy and puns when performing.

Repertoire, career

The ensemble offers four -part a cappella singing . The vocal spectrum ranges from bass to countertenor . The band performs its own compositions and arrangements from classical, rock, pop, jazz and folk music. The subjects of the pieces are everyday life, self-reflection and occasionally also political issues. Videos for the musical performances are also produced by the band.

The ensemble was founded in 2012 as a four-part male vocal band in Berlin. Since 2013 Delta Q has had around 50 gigs per year in German-speaking countries. According to its self-portrayal, Delta Q has "... the declared goal of performing four-part a cappella singing at the highest level, enriched with unusual choreographies and theatrical elements".

The group regularly takes part in competitions and is well placed there. In 2017 the first CD Delta Q was released. At the beginning of 2019, Delta Q had a multi-week engagement at the Epcot Center in Disney World , Florida, USA.

The ensemble is regularly mentioned in the press.

Members

  • Sebastian Küchler (née Hengst), born in Berlin in 1988, studied vocal pedagogy (popular music) at the BTU Cottbus and is a founding member of Delta Q.
  • Thorsten Engels, born in Schwetzingen in 1981, studied acting in North Rhine-Westphalia from 2003 to 2007 and played at various German theaters until 2015. In 2016 he switched to music and joined Delta Q as a tenor.
  • Tom Dewulf, born in Jette, Belgium, in 1982, completed his studies as a classical concert pianist and has since been a diverse entertainer in the fields of comedy and musicals. He has been singing with Delta Q since 2019.
  • Matthias Graf, born in 1986, studied musical and vocal pedagogy at HMT Leipzig from 2006 to 2011, after which he was active in various musical productions and on cruise ships. In 2017 he sang briefly with Delta Q and has been a permanent member since 2019.

Awards

  • 2012: A video clip of the group wins the “European Choir Video Award” and the “A-CAPIDEO” video competition of the International A-cappella Week Hanover.
  • 2014: First place at the international “A CAPPELLA competition” in Leipzig
  • 2014: Five prizes at the international a cappella competition “vokal.total” (Graz-Austria), including the audience award
  • 2015: Winning the Europe-wide video competition "Europe in Harmony" with the stop-motion video for Friedrich Schiller's An die Freude
  • 2016: Received a "Berlin Music Video Award"
  • 2016: Audience award and jury award of the " St. Ingberter Pfanne "
  • 2017: "CARA Award" for the "Best European Album"
