The Democratic Party of Peasants and Workers of China ( Chinese  中國農工民主黨  /  中国农工民主党 , Pinyin Zhōngguó nónggōng mínzhǔdǎng ) is one of the approved " Eight Democratic Parties and Groups " of the People's Republic of China . She is committed to the leadership of the Chinese Communist Party .

history

After a period of cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Chinese Communist Party , the two parties broke up in 1927. As a result, a number of Marxists in the Kuomintang formed an association that was called Shanghai's "Third Party" in the Japanese-language press. However, it was not constituted as a party until 1930. In 1947 it took on its current name. By then it had grown closer and closer to the CP and became its ally in the civil war. After the proclamation of the People's Republic of China in 1949, high officials were able to take on posts in the new state, but they became increasingly dependent on the CP, which was founded in 1950 and later. a. forbade the so-called eight democratic parties and groups to take peasants and workers into their ranks, as only the CP could do so. Members and officials of the Democratic Party of Peasants and Workers of China were persecuted in the anti-rights campaign and in the Cultural Revolution . After party work came to a complete standstill in the Cultural Revolution, the Democratic Party of Peasants and Workers of China could not appear again until 1978.

ideology

In its statutes, the Democratic Party of Peasants and Workers of China acknowledges the political leadership of the Communist Party and loyalty to the political direction of the current Communist Party leader. The party also represents the interests of farm workers and ordinary people. As a member of the Communist Party, the party does not see itself as an opposition. It also refers to the political ideas of its founder Deng Yanda.

The party is similar in structure to the Chinese Communist Party . Despite the name “Democratic Party of Peasants and Workers of China”, peasants and workers are undesirable as members. The members are almost exclusively intellectuals. Double membership in other parties is possible. The number of members rose by 1,644% to 157,000 between 1958 and 2017.
