Demons & Wizards is a power metal band that was created as a side project of Jon Schaffer (guitarist of the band Iced Earth ) and Hansi Kürsch (singer with Blind Guardian ) and combines Schaffer's guitar technique with Kürsch's vocals. In addition to the two main musicians , various session musicians were involved in the two previously released albums .
Band history
The first ideas for this joint project came up in 1997 when Schaffer and Kürsch recorded a song together that can be found on the debut album under the name My Last Sunrise . While Kürsch was still touring with Blind Guardian, Schaffer was already preparing several songs and in the summer of 1999 the production of the first album began, which was released in 2000 under the name Demons & Wizards .
Until the next album Touched by the Crimson King it took five years due to obligations Schaffer and Kürsch to their main bands. It was recorded in November and December 2004 and mixed in February and March 2005 by Jim Morris like its previous album. The eight-volume epic The Dark Tower by bestselling author Stephen King served as inspiration for several songs on the album .
In a statement by Hansi Kürsch in March 2011, he announced that he and John Schaffer wanted to make plans for a new Demons & Wizards album at the 70,000 Tons of Metal Festival and that they wanted to publish it as soon as possible. Ultimately, however, it took until 2018 for Kürsch and Schaffer to work on new material. First, remasters of the two albums Demons & Wizards and Touched by the Crimson King were released in 2019 . At the same time, Demons & Wizards went on an extensive tour of Europe and North America from the end of May 2019. a. appeared as headliners at Wacken Open Air .
