Dempsey Wright

George Dempsey Wright (born July 14, 1929 in Calumet (Oklahoma) , † April 24, 2001 in Hot Springs (Arizona) ) was an American jazz musician ( guitar , arrangement ).

Wright worked on the Los Angeles jazz scene in the 1950s; In 1957 he recorded with Harry Babasin and the Jazzpickers and with Bob Keene and His Orchestra. 1958 Wright played his debut album The Wright Approach ( Andex Records ) on; Contributors were Richie Kamuca , Victor Feldman , Ben Tucker and Stan Levey and Bill Holman as arranger. In the following years he played a. a. 1959 with Freddie Gambrell ( Mikado ) and 1962 with Harry James . In 1974 he presented the album String Euphoria (Nocturne Hollywood). In the field of jazz, he was involved in 13 recording sessions between 1957 and 2074, according to Tom Lord . According to Scott Yanow , Wright had a calm, engaging tone and strong bop-based improvisational style.
