Deng Liqun
Deng Liqun ( Chinese 邓力群 / 鄧力群 , Pinyin Dèng Lìqún , W.-G. Teng Li-Ch'un ; born November 27, 1915 in Guidong , Republic of China ; † February 10, 2015 in Beijing , People's Republic of China ) was a Chinese politician .
Deng became a member of the Chinese Communist Party in 1936 . He was used after the communists' victory in the civil war in Xinjiang Province in 1949 to enforce Chinese rule against the resistance of the local Uyghurs . Deng got into trouble during the Cultural Revolution but was rehabilitated in the 1970s. From 1982 to 1985 he was the party's head of propaganda.
Deng was known politically as a left hardliner and publicly opposed Deng Xiaoping's pursuit of economic reforms, including accusing Jiang Zemin of potentially destroying the party. Like the then Liberal Party Secretary Zhao Ziyang , he was not allowed to attend the Deng state funeral. In 2001 he publicly attacked plans to bring capitalist entrepreneurs to China.
Liqun was married to Luo Liyun and had a son, Deng Yingtao († March 11, 2012).
