Denis Bodart

Denis Bodart (born November 30, 1962 in Namur ) is a Belgian comic artist who was best known for his work on Green Manor .

Life

He studied at the Institut Saint-Luc in Brussels and began a brief career as a teacher, but then turned to comics and made his debut in 1985 with the publishing house Bédéscope based on a scenario by Alain Streng with the comic book Saint-Germaine des Morts . Three years later he began working with Yann , with whom he created new series for the magazines Circus and L'Écho des savanes ( Les Affreux and Célestin Speculoos for Circus , albums by Glénat and Nicotine Gaudron for L'Écho ... , albums from 1990 with Albin Michel , in German only the first of two albums presented as Nelly Nicotin in the series U-Comix: as volume 69 in Alpha-Comic Verlag ) as well as a new episode of Chaminou (originally created by Raymond Macherot , album with Marsu Productions) realized.

From 1995 Bodart worked for the traditional Belgian magazine Spirou . Initially with different short stories and one-pagers. This resulted in the Green Manor series based on texts by Fabien Vehlmann in 1998 , which originally began as a single short story. This was so well received by the readers of Spirou that it became a series. Parallel to his work for Spirou , Bodart drew albums based on scripts by Chris Lamquet and Froissart, with which he tried out various genres. In 2005, Bodart took part in the # 3500 anniversary issue of Spirou by designing the 2nd episode of Lecteurs de père en fils (Scenario of Salma), a series of one-pagers in which the respective generations of readers of the magazine, which has appeared since 1938 were shown.

Bodart's nervous and dynamic stroke is reminiscent of the late André Franquin .

Awards

  • At the 11th Andenne Festival on September 4th and 5th, 2004, for which he also designed the poster, Bodart was awarded the City of Andenne Prize for his previous work. This festival was accompanied by an extensive exhibition on Bodart's oeuvre.
  • The volume illustrated by Bodart, 24H sous Tension , was awarded the Prix ​​de la communication in 2005 at the Festival International de la Bande Dessinée d'Angoulême .
