Denise Epoté

Denise Laurence Djengué Epoté , Denise Epoté for short (born November 22, 1954 in Nkongsamba , French mandate East Cameroon ) is a Cameroonian journalist and head of the Africa department of TV5 Monde . She was the first anchorwoman on the evening news of the Cameroonian state television CRTV .

Life

Youth and education

Denise Epoté was born on November 22, 1954 in Nkongsamba , a town in the southwest of what was then the French mandate of Eastern Cameroon, the oldest of four children. She attended the Lycée Général Leclerc in Yaoundé . After completing her school education with flying colors, she was accepted at the International School of Journalism in Yaoundé (ESUY), where she studied journalism.

Professional background

In 1981, Epoté began working as a journalist for Radio Cameroon . She later moved to state television, where she became the first anchorwoman on the French-language evening news at 8:30 p.m. in 1985. Together with her English-speaking colleague Eric Chinje , she presented and moderated the evening news from 1985 to 1993. In 1993, Epoté left the state television broadcaster and began working for the French broadcaster TV5 Monde and Radio France Internationale .

Et si vous me disiez toute la vérité

Since 1999, Epoté has hosted its own talk show Et si vous me disiez toute la vérité (French for “And they tell me the whole truth”) on TV5 Monde, to which she invites guests to discuss the present and future of the African continent. Epoté has already received numerous well-known personalities in its programs, including Andry Rajoelina , Omar Bongo Ondimba , James Alix Michel , Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz , Aminata Traoré and - for the tenth anniversary of the program in 1999 - the then Malian President Amadou Toumani Touré .

In addition, Epoté moderates the program Africa Presse , a talk show with journalists from the newspaper Liberation , in which African news is discussed. On Radio France Internationale she announces her views on political events in the radio column “Week Denise Epoté” every Sunday.

Awards

Denise Epoté has already received numerous awards and recognitions for her services to Cameroonian journalism. These include, among other things, the award for the best television journalist at the Panafrican Broadcasting Heritage and Achievement Awards (2001). Since May 2013 she has also been a member of the French Legion of Honor .

Private

Denise Epoté got married in July 1991. She is now divorced.
