Val di Cornia Rosso

Val di Cornia Rosso or Rosso della Val di Cornia is an Italian red wine that is produced in the Tuscan provinces of Livorno and Pisa and that has had a DOCG denomination (controlled and guaranteed indication of origin ) since 2011 . This was last updated on March 7, 2014.

Cultivation

The name (German: Tal der Cornia ) comes from the river Cornia , in whose catchment area the vineyards are located. Production is permitted:

The following grape varieties may be used to produce this red wine :

  • 40-100% Sangiovese
  • 0–60% Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot , individually or together
  • 0–15% other red grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region (with the exception of the Aleatico grape variety )

The Val di Cornia Rosso or Rosso della Val di Cornia cannot be sold before May 1st of the second year after the harvest. Wines with the additional designation Riserva may not be sold before January 1st of the third year after the harvest. Before that, they must be aged for at least 18 months in wooden barrels and six months in bottles.
