Suvereto (wine)

Suvereto DOCG are Italian red wines that have had a "controlled and guaranteed designation of origin " ( Denominazione di Origine Controllata e Garantita - DOCG) since November 18, 2011 , which was last updated on March 7, 2014. The wine-growing area is located in the northern Italian province of Livorno in the Tuscany region . The denomination was last updated on March 7, 2014.

The DOCG area covers the entire municipality of Suvereto .

Article 2 describes which types of wine may be produced:

  • Suvereto: May contain up to 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and / or Merlot . A maximum of 15% other red grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added.
  • Suvereto Sangiovese : Must contain at least 85% Sangiovese. A maximum of 15% other red grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added.
  • Suvereto Merlot: Must contain at least 85% Merlot. A maximum of 15% other red grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added.
  • Suvereto Cabernet Sauvignon: Must contain at least 85% Cabernet Sauvignon. A maximum of 15% other red grape varieties approved for cultivation in the Tuscany region may be added.

The wines may be sold no earlier than June 1 of the second year following the harvest. The term "Riserva" may only be used to designate wines that are sold after January 1st of the third year after the harvest and have at least 13  % by volume .
