Monument to King Friedrich I (Berlin)
The monument to King Friedrich I of Prussia is a memorial in Berlin .
It is an exact replica of the monument to King Frederick I in Königsberg , which had stood in front of the castle there in memory of Frederick I since 1802 and was lost after 1945. It was a work by Andreas Schlüter from 1697/98.
On the initiative of Gerhard Marcks and Waldemar Grzimek , two replicas were made in Berlin-Köpenick in 1972 based on a plaster copy of the original that had been found in the East Berlin State Gipsformerei . Based on a reproduction of the original base, a work by the building researcher and monument protector Hartwig Schmidt and the sculptor Fritz Becker, one of the replicas was set up at Charlottenburg Palace in honor of the client .
