The monument commemorating the Battle of Dennewitz or Bülowdenkmal is a memorial in Dennewitz , Niedergörsdorf municipality , in the Teltow-Fläming district in Brandenburg . It is located east of the village church and north of the village road on the Anger. The Tauentzienstein and a grave cross for those who fell in the Battle of Dennewitz remind of the Battle of Dennewitz .

The monument was built in 1913, the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Dennewitz on September 6, 1813 as part of the Wars of Liberation . In this battle troops under Friedrich Wilhelm von Bülow and Bogislav defeated Friedrich Emanuel von Tauentzien , the French army and the Saxons allied with it under Marshal Michel Ney . This victory prevented Napoleon from advancing to Berlin. The battle claimed around 10,500 victims, wounded or prisoners of war on the Prussian side, and 23,000 on the French side.

A light granite plinth rises on a pedestal with two figures on it, dressed in traditional costumes from the time of the Wars of Liberation. One kneels, the other stands. They represent Count Bülow and the war poet Ernst Moritz Arndt . There are relief plates on the pedestal. On the front side there is a picture of Bülows on the relief plate with the inscription: “Up, brave and never pale, / because God is everywhere! / Freedom and the kingdom of heaven / do not win halves. / EM Arndt “. The relief on the back shows battle scenes and the inscription: “Man drup, dat geiht fört Vaderland! / Erected to celebrate the centenary in 1913 ”. The monument is surrounded by a wrought iron grille. Linden trees stand in the square around the monument.

The memorial shows in a transfigured way the military heroism of Bülows. Ernst Moritz Arndt had taken sides in the fight against Napoleon.
