Dennis Eberhard

Dennis Eberhard (* 1943 in Cleveland ; † May 25, 2005 ibid) was an American composer and music teacher.

Eberhard studied at the Cleveland Institute of Music, Kent State University and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign . His composition teachers were Marie Martin , Frederick Coulter , Salvatore Martirano and Włodzimierz Kotoński , he studied electroacoustic and computer music with Gordon Mumma and Herbert Brün . He has taught at the University of Illinois , Western Illinois University , the University of Nebraska , Oberlin Conservatory of Music and Cleveland State University, and has given guest lectures at other universities.

From 1969 to 1972 he worked at the University of Illinois' Experimental Music Studio . In 1973 he traveled to Poland, where his multimedia work Dialogues II was performed at the Warsaw Autumn . A Rome award enabled him to stay at the American Academy in Rome from 1977 . In 1980 he returned to the USA. Here he received composition commissions a. a. the Cleveland Chamber Symphony of the Cleveland Octet and the Cleveland Orchestra and composed Cadenzas & Interludes for the International Music Festival of Performers and Artists for Nuclear Disarmament (PAND) in Helsinki in 1990.

In 1998 the PAND Festival Orchestra under Steve Smith played the world premiere of Prometheus Wept (August 6, August 9, 1945) in memory of the victims of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. In 2002 Eberhard traveled to Saint Petersburg for the world premiere of his piano concerto Shadow of the Swan with pianist Halida Dinova .
