Dennis Fentie (born November 8, 1950 in Edmonton , Alberta - † August 30, 2019 ) was a Canadian politician . From 2002 to 2011 he was Prime Minister of the Yukon Territory and chairman of the Yukon Party .

The owner and former managing director of the construction company Francis River Construction Ltd. was a Member of Parliament for the Yukon New Democratic Party from 1996 to May 2002 . He turned against the party line and then switched to the conservative Yukon Party a month later , where he became leader. The following November he won a majority with his new party in the government elections in the Yukon Territory and thus became head of government.

He came under fire in November 2003 when it was revealed that he had been sentenced to 4 years in prison for heroin trafficking in 1974 at the age of 24 and released after 17 months. Because of a pardon in 1996, it hadn't appeared on his certificate of good conduct.

His government lost the majority in the elections on August 3, 2006, but he was confirmed in office on October 10, 2006 and is now serving a second term. On June 10, 2011, he resigned and passed his office to Darrell Pasloski .
