Dennis Turner, Baron Bilston (born August 26, 1942 in Bilston , West Midlands , † February 25, 2014 ) was a British politician ( Labor and Co-operative ).

biography

Turner, son of Thomas Herbert Turner and Mary Elizabeth Peasley, attended Stonefield Secondary Modern School and Bilston College of Education.

Turner was from 1966 to 1986 a member of the Wolverhampton Borough Council , 1980 to 1986 as vice chairman. From 1973 to 1986 he was also a member of the West Midlands County Council . From 1987 to 2005 he was a member of the House of Commons for Wolverhampton South East . From 1991 to 1993 he was chairman of the Co-operative Party Parliamentary Group . From 1992 to 1997 he was the opposition whip . Also in 1997 he became Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) for the Development Minister, initially until 2003 for Clare Short , in 2003 for Valerie Amos . Since 2000 he was treasurer of the Lopus Group .

In 2005, Turner Life was peered as Baron Bilston , of Bilston in the County of West Midlands. In the same year he also became secretary of the non-profit Making Members' Clubs Group . Since 2008 he has been Vice Chairman of the Markets Group and Chairman of the Greyhound Group . He was a member of the British Humanist Association .

He was married to Patricia Narroway since 1976. They have a son and a daughter.
