Dentsply International is an American manufacturer of dental products. Founded in 1899, the company is the largest manufacturer of dental products in the world. Dentsply has offices in 22 countries and sells its products in over 100 countries.
Dentsply Dental Medicine Germany (Dentsply DeTrey GmbH) is based in Constance . The headquarters of the dental technology products (DeguDent) is in Hanau .
Dentsply manufactures dentures , fillings and implants and sells various other products for dentists such as syringes, anesthetics and lead aprons. The company is the second largest amalgam manufacturer in the USA.
history
The history of dentures goes back to 1820. At that time, a family of silversmiths in London was asked by a dentist to make dentures. About 70 years later, a Swiss dentist developed the first usable gold filling. Dentsply was founded at this time. In 1899, four business people came together (Jacob F. Frantz, MD, Dean C. Osborne, George H. Whiteley, John R. Sheppard) to enter the dentures business. In the meantime, Dentsply has grown massively. In 1963 Dentsply Caulk LD, 1976 by the Amalgamated Dental Co. Ltd. , the DeTrey AG in Zurich. Research and production were relocated to Constance in 1985. In 1999 Dentsply acquired FRIATEC's medical division , Friadent. In 2001 Dentsply took over the Dental Group from Degussa AG for 576 million euros, making it one of the largest manufacturers of dental products. In 2015 there was a merger with Sirona Dental Systems .
