The Departamento Capital is located in the center of the province of Mendoza in western Argentina and is one of 18 administrative units in the province.

It is bordered by the Las Heras department to the north and west, the Guaymallén department to the east and the Godoy Cruz department to the south .

The capital of the Department Capital is Mendoza , which is also the provincial capital.
