The 7th sense

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 7th sense is a German television information program on road safety that was broadcast from 1966 to 2005. She is referred to as "the mother of all traffic education programs".

history

In contrast to traffic education for children and adolescents, the target group were motorists and adult road users. The series was initiated by Günter Wind (1917–2018). The theme music, which was created by the first author and director Alfred Noell based on motifs from Kenny Clarke's composition Jay Jay , and the sonorous voice of Egon Hoegen , who worked as the spokesperson for the program from the start, were characteristic of the five-minute-long programs . The popularity of the title has led to the fact that the term seventh sense is occasionally also used for the sixth sense , i.e. other senses outside of human perception.

The German first broadcast took place on February 4, 1966. Tips on correct behavior in traffic were presented weekly . Accidents posed in everyday situations were shown, as well as information on physical principles (e.g. braking distance ), psychological backgrounds (e.g. aggression ) or technical details of automobiles ( power steering, etc.). Although many films were made in the 1970s and seem antiquated today, their content is still current.

The broadcasts were produced by WDR itself until 1985, and since then by the TV production company Cine Relation on its behalf . The head of the Service and Advice program group , Karl Mertes, was responsible for the content . The broadcast was created in cooperation with the German traffic watch.

The show has received over 45 international prizes, awards and certificates.

After hiring

The last episode of the show for the time being was broadcast in December 2005. At that time, the lead ARD station WDR announced that it would revise the concept of the program. Nothing has happened since then, but in the summer of 2007 German politicians called for the series to be revived.

Since 2010 the soldier broadcaster, Radio Andernach , has been using short clips with the melody of the 7th sense and texts spoken by Egon Hoegen for foreign missions of the German armed forces, in order to sensitize soldiers to the issue of road safety.

In the meantime, this program is broadcast in numerous languages in many countries around the world.
