The shareholder is a stock exchange magazine that is published by Börsenmedien AG from Kulmbach . Founded in 1994 under the name Bulle und Bär , the magazine was first published in 1996 under the name Der Aktionär. At that time published monthly, the shareholder has been published weekly since 2000.

Every week the editorial team explains and analyzes stocks, funds, bonds, ETFs, certificates, warrants, commodities, precious metals and cryptocurrencies. The shareholder gives concrete recommendations for action for beginners and private investors who make their own decisions. In addition, the editorial team illuminates the investment strategies of well-known stock market professionals and develops its own trading strategies for systematic investments. Sample deposits complement the editorial offer. The focus is always on the utility for the reader. The shareholder is a mandatory sheet on all German stock exchanges.

The publisher of the shareholder is the Kulmbach entrepreneur Bernd Förtsch .

The shareholder has a weekly circulation of 43,539 copies and is, according to the information community for the determination of the distribution of advertising media (IVW), the magazine with the highest turnover in this segment at the kiosk. In the first quarter of 2020, an average of 12,367 copies were sold. E-paper retail sales averaged 1,535 copies.

On December 18, 2019, the “Yearbook 2020” was published, which marked the beginning of the shareholder edition. The 218-page yearbook should serve investors as a guide to 2020 and show the long-term nature of successful investments.

From 2005 to 2007 the shareholder was represented with Der Aktionär TV on N24 . After a two-year break, this broadcast format was taken up again by the German investor television (DAF). The Aktionär TV AG is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Kulmbacher Börsenmedien AG.

With Der Aktionär Online , the shareholder is continuing the concept of the print magazine on the Internet. The focus is on concrete buy or sell recommendations and the assessment of current news. The shareholder online is measured by the AGOF and has over four million unique users (as of March 2020). The website is part of the Business & More marketing network, a product of netzathleten.net GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of IP Germany .

In 2002 the magazine came into the focus of the public prosecutor's office. The former editor-in-chief Sascha Opel (1999–2000) was investigated for insider trading . The editor Bernd Förtsch , against whom an investigation was also initiated, was able to dispel all suspicions against himself.

Opel was replaced by Olaf Hordenbach, who was editor-in-chief until 2007. From 2007 to 2010 the editorial team was headed by Michael Lang. Subsequently, from August 1, 2010, Frank Phillipps took over the role of the shareholder's editor-in-chief. As of January 1, 2012, Markus Horntrich became the new editor-in-chief, who until then had headed the shares department. Leon Müller has been editor-in-chief since April 1, 2019. The financial journalist previously held various positions at Börsenmedien AG, including as editor-in-chief at Deutsches Investitions Fernsehen and from 2017 to 2018 as editor-in-chief of the monthly magazine Der Investitions. As in the Horntrich times, his deputy is Martin Weiß.
