The Architect (Austrian magazine)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The architect was a specialist magazine with the subtitle "Wiener monthly booklet for building and decorative art", which appeared from 1895 to 1922 in Vienna.

It was published by Anton Schroll & Co. from the first to the 14th year (1895–1908) and from 1916 to 1922 . In between it was published by Eduard Kosmack. The first editor of the large-format magazine was Ferdinand von Fellner-Feldegg .

In his artistic direction, the "architect" was initially committed to more traditional schools, but soon turned to progressive tendencies and increasingly became the mouthpiece of modern architecture. This is also evident in the aesthetics of the page design, especially on the title page in Art Nouveau style.

The staff included personalities such as Josef Hoffmann, Joseph Maria Olbrich , Camillo Sitte and Otto Wagner . In addition to the monthly issues, issues from Otto Wagner's school with articles from Wagner students such as Otto Schönthal or Jan Kotéra were published annually . With the supplement “Die bildenden Künste”, which accompanied the “architect” from 1916 to 1918, the magazine expanded its artistic focus.
