Ramel Curry Antwone (* 17th April 1980 in New York City borough Brooklyn , United States ) is an American basketball player .

Career as a player

America (until 2006)

Curry first moved to the Junior College Fresno City College in the Californian city of the same name in 1999 and played there for the Rams university team in the NJCAA. In 2001 he moved to California State University in Bakersfield , where he played for the Roadrunners . The Roadrunners were still playing in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) of the NCAA Division II and had been a very successful team in the 1990s with three state championships in Division II. Curry ended his college career after just one year at CSUB after being named “Player of the Year” in 2002 by the CCAA.

Then, in 2002, Curry was in the squad for the Oklahoma Storm , a franchise of the United States Basketball League summer league , which was coached by basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar during that season . However, he returned to Bakersfield and played for the Vipers of Kern County in the minor league "Southwest Basketball League". In November 2003 he was briefly in the preparatory squad for the Yakima Sun Kings from the Continental Basketball Association . For the 2003/04 season he moved to the ABA with the Diablos from the Mexican border town of Tijuana in Baja California . The Diablos had also competed in the Southwest Basketball League a year earlier. After he was allowed to appear in talent scouting games for the NBA club Los Angeles Lakers during the summer break of 2004 , he also began the 2004/05 season with a California team in the ABA and played for the Jam from Long Beach .

In January 2005, Curry was signed by the Riverdragons from Columbus (Georgia) in the NBA Development League . With this team he lost the final game in front of a home crowd for the 2005 D-League title against defending champion Asheville Altitude, although he showed an attractive performance on the loser's side with twelve points and eight rebounds . During the summer break he was still active in Venezuela before returning to the Riverdragons who played the 2005/06 season as Toros in Austin, Texas . Although Marcus Fizer was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the season, the Toros did not reach the final again. After the end of the season, Curry was still playing in the Dominican Republic .

Europe (since 2006)

For the 2006/07 season he signed a contract for the first time in Europe and moved to the Italian Serie A for the club from Avellino in Campania . With the club he was only just able to avoid relegation from the top Italian division this season. In the next season he moved to Israel to HaPoel from Jerusalem . With this team he defended the Israeli Cup in 2008 in the final against Maccabi Tel Aviv . He then played again in Italy in the 2008/09 season, where he ended the season beaten in the last place in the Serie A table with the traditional club from Pesaro .

The 2009/10 season began Curry at Erdemirspor from Zonguldak in the Türkiye Basketbol Ligi . In January 2010 he moved to the Ukrainian master Azovmash from Mariupol , with whom he was able to defend the title in the national championship in 2010. The following season 2010/11 was less successful, in the European club competition Eurocup 2010/11 they were eliminated early in the first round and in the national championship they did not reach the final. Only in the new Eastern European VTB United League 2010/11 was it comparatively successful and reached the Final Four tournament. Here, however, there was almost no chance against the superiority of the best Russian clubs and took fourth place. Curry himself was named MVP for days six and eight and was even honored for his achievements in this league as MVP for season 2010/11. For the 2011/12 season, he moved to the Ukrainian runner-up from Donetsk , with whom he was able to qualify early for the quarter-finals in the 2011/12 Eurocup . In spring 2013 he moved to Panathinaikos Athens in Greece where he was under contract until summer 2014 and was able to win two championships as well as the Greek club cup.
