Branislav "Bane" Prelević ( Serbian Бранислав Прелевић, Greek Μπράνισλαβ Πρέλεβιτς , born December 19, 1966 in Belgrade ) is a former Serbian - Greek basketball player. He became known during his time at PAOK Thessaloniki , where he was also the captain.

Life

Career

He started his career in 1986 at Red Star Belgrade and moved to PAOK Thessaloniki in 1988 . He quickly became a fan favorite and captain there. On the one hand, this was due to his loyalty to the team and his tireless commitment to playing for the team, regardless of whether he was injured.

On March 26, 1991 he won the European Cup Winners' Cup with PAOK after beating CAI Zaragoza in Genoa 76:72 . In the next season they were able to reach the final again, but were defeated by Real Madrid with 63:65. In the same year PAOK was able to become Greek champion .

In the 1992/1993 season Prelević was then able to play with PAOK in the European Cup . They reached the semi-finals and were eliminated after the 77:79 against Benetton Treviso .

In 1994 he won the Korać Cup with PAOK . They also brought the Greek Cup to Thessaloniki in 1995 . In 1996 they were able to reach the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup again , but they lost 81:88 against Taugre Vitoria from Spain.

At the end of the season, after eight years at PAOK Thessaloniki, he moved to Virtus Bologna in Italy . But after only one season in Italy, he returned to Greece in 1997 and signed with AEK Athens.

At AEK Athens he played from 1997 to 1999 and reached the Final Four in the European Cup. In 1998 and 1999 he was in the final of the Greek Cup, but both times he lost with AEK Athens.

After three years he returned to PAOK Thessaloniki in 1999. After that season he ended his career at the age of 34.

Bane Prelević is a legend for many PAOK fans. After ending his career in 2000, he was an assistant coach at PAOK from 2001 to 2002. From 2002 to 2005 he was also the coach of PAOK Thessaloniki . From 2011 to 2019 he was President of PAOK BC Thessaloniki.

Personal

Bane Prelević has both Serbian and Greek citizenship. He is married to Nevena Prelević-Marjanović (born April 26, 1967, daughter of the Yugoslav singer Đorđe Marjanović) and has two daughters with her, Anna and Tea. Anna Prelević became Miss Greece in 2010 and represented Greece at the Miss Universe 2010 in Las Vegas.
